This is actually a Google Game Center real time game between myself and nie_wiesz. The time limit was 20 minutes per player, with 15 seconds increment per move, which generally compensated for the lost time on each move with this Javascript server. Maciej played 1.E4 which I swapped.

You can see the game at http://gc1.iggamecenter.com/gm.php?gid=59&sid=48154&place=0&lang=en

The actual game board is small, so once the game began, I lowered the resolution of my screen display so that it would take up more real estate on my monitor

1.e4 2.o15 3.j15 4.j13 5.g13 6.i15 7.r11 8.p9 9.p12 10.n17 11.s16 12.s20 13.f15 14.h17 15.r18 16.r14 17.r13 18.p13 19.t14 20.p19 21.s19 22.t18 23.q18 24.q7 25.n11

Here 26.h21 looks winning for black. Continuing the game as if h21 had been played, we get

26.h21 27.r21 28.l7 29.j8 30.i6 31.g7 32.i10 33.h9 34.k9 35.i11 36.k11

Now the winning move in the game does not win here:

37.d19 38.d21 39.d23 40.e19 41.f18 42.g18 and black wins.

Returning to the actual game,

26.i20 27.r21 28.l7 29.j8 30.i6 31.g7 32.i10 33.h9 34.k9 35.i11 36.k11 37.d19

The crucial line now looks like 38.e19. For example:

38.e19 39.f20 40.d17 41.d16 42.g20 43.c18 44.e21 45.c21 46.b20 black wins. But instead white had a win with

38.e19 39.e17 40.c20 41.f19 42.f21 43.h20 44.h22 45.j19 46.k19 47.k17

The seemingly dead peg on J15 turns into a life saver. White threatens L14 which black must block.

48.m14 49.l19 50.m20 51.n20 52.o21 53.o19 54.m19 55.o18 56.p18 57.q19 which would have been a link removal move under the real Twixt rules we were using. White finally punches through and wins. With just 5 minutes remaining for me, I don't know if I would have seen all this or not. But instead Maciek let me off the hook with

38.d22 39.c21 40.f21 41.d23 42.e17 43.e16

and he resigned. I should add this took place around 3 a.m. Warsaw time, so he probably wasn't in top form, but I'll take what I can get.

23.r21 seems much more straightforward than the actual 23.q18. Is there any disadvantage to the former? 23.r21 24.q21 25.q20 26.s22 does not work for black.

Or am I over-analyzing a real-time game?

23.r21 leads to some very tricky tactics.

23.r21 24.q20 and now:

25.q19 26.p18 and black threatens to double link via R19 or R22.

OR

25.p20 26.r19 27.q18 28.q17 black wins.

OR

25.p20 26.r19 27.p17 28.p18 is a triple link for black.

So, 23.q18 was the only way to go.
