As of move 6, it was already a very awkward position for me. (Maybe 3.p11 wasn't such a good idea.) Lucy has a Y-shaped threat from the left, branching to the right. My prospects of a Y conversion on the right (7.r12?) didn't look so good. I decided to begin with 7.f9 8.g9 9.h10 10.i10 11.j11 12.f7 13.d8 14.c4, which all went according to plan, which I figure strengthens my position by keeping the Y formation while getting one peg at j11, connected to a bottom-facing gauntlet.

Now, typically I don't attack the center of the Y; I go into the branches. But this time I still wasn't seeing any winning branch move. 15.r12? then 16.q7 17.o7 18.k12 19.r16 20.o8, for example. I decided my connection to my gauntlet on the left was valuable enough to use as a threat. So 15.n12. Then if 16.k12 17.m14, if 16.p8 17.n8, and if 16.p9 17.n8.

But when I saw the 16.p9 response, I realized that I totally missed the 17.n8 18.l11 threat. Now, maybe 19.r12 could have taken care of that. But I saw something else that looked better at the time: 17.m10, then if 18.n8 then 19.j7, and if 18.m7 then 19.p7 20.o7 21.n6. And once again, when I saw the 18.m7 response, I realized the fatal flaw in my reasoning: if 19.p7 then 20.q7 instead - an instant win for Lucy.

Crisis. I stared at it for some time before deciding to try something like 19.u9 20.t9 21.p7 22.q7 23.r6 24.o8 25.s8 26.r10 27.t11 28.s13 29.r12. But Black's response was 20.q11 instead. Good move.

I don't recall what my plan was with 21.s12. It was a last-ditch effort, anyway. After 22.t10, I was playing for a draw, but Lucy didn't let up.
