26.h8 Does not work--
27.h7

|26.h8 27.h7 does not work? I'm not convinced: 28.j7 29.g9 30.g12 31.j13 32.i11 33.i8 34.k10 35.k8 36.i5 37.j10 38.g6

That is pretty tight, and it's a long line and I probably missed something. But it takes advantage of that mid-board threat. That enables you to be more conservative in crossing the quadrant. For example, I think I might have tried:

|26.i6 27.e7 28.f9 29.d10 30.f13 31.j13 32.g11

but I have not analyzed this exhaustively. I'd like to know what the bot thinks.

The bot says |26.g12 27.s11 28.r8 29.j13 30.i8 is winning for black.

This is going to be a stupid question, but here goes. How does a mere mortal like me learn what the bot says?

Alan, sorry I missed your post while I was writing mine. This might take a couple of hours.

Loren, your "learn what the bot says" could be taken two ways.
If you mean, how do I learn to play as well as the bot, perhaps you could install the bot on your PC for practice. There is a recent thread on LG that discusses this. This is arguably better than just playing Twixtbot on LG because you can choose how much time it takes per move, and you can take a first move handicap. That's what I do and I still usually lose.
If you mean how do I find out what the bot would do, again you might install it on your machine.

Loren, your main forum thread is here:

https://www.littlegolem.net/jsp/forum/topic2.jsp?forum=55&topic=429

or perhaps you can save time by going directly here:

https://github.com/stevens68/twixtbot-ui

Personally, I have done NONE of this, since I find all this software stuff to be totally brain numbing. However, a bunch of other folks HAVE, so hopefully you can find this all helpful.

|26.h8 bot: 27.s11 28.r8 29.j8 30.g16 31.f16 32.g12 33.i14? 34.j9 35.l9?? This is a rare bot error. Black can win with 36.i8. I backed up and took over for white. 33.f11 34.h19 35.g19 36.f20 37.e20 (White is threatening M5) 38.j4 Now I let the bot play both sides again. 39.k6 40.k5 41.e5 42.d5 43.c6 and white wins. But it occurred to me that black should not have played G16. After 30.g12 white does not get the opportunity to play F11 with tempo, which was crucial for white in the above variation. So I believe black wins with H8 after all. For example 31.j13 32.k7 This demonstrates how fallible the bot is, especially in such a long line. So please do question everything here.

|26.h8 27.h7 bot: 28.i6 29.i5 30.g12 31.j13 32.j9 black wins.

|26.h8 27.h7 28.j7 the bot agrees with Alan's line, after lots of faffing around on the right side. The threat of white M5 (see the above variation that was winning for white) does not help white here.

Yeah, sure, |26.i6 also wins. The bot line goes 27.s11 28.r8 29.e7 30.g12 31.j13 32.h10 and Alan's line probably also works.

Thank you to everyone who gave me information on how to get the "Twixt Bot." I am afraid when I go to GitHub I am lost. The windows installer link says it is expired, and the rest seems to assume I know things I do not. If anyone can translate without too much effort I would be grateful, but I will keep trying to decipher the stevens68/twixtbot-ui link in the mean time.

Loren, go back to the Forum page above and post this question there. Way more people will see the question over there than over here - even the developers of the Twixtbot gui. I expect that somebody there can help you out with the technical details.
