To the kinds of David and Alan: What do you think of 23.q20? Isn't the sequence 24.s19 25.u19 26.u22 27.r18 forced and 23.q20 is a valid answer to the defense 22.s21? I mean beyond this game? Thank you for your input!

|23.q20 - I found that usually the best defense to this is 24.q22 - it's basically the same pattern, but in a different order: 25.p22 26.s19 27.u19 28.u22 29.r18. White wins this way, too. The strength of |23.q20 in this position is that R18 threatens to connect directly to a line to the top.

Thanks Alan. I guess I was surprised by 23.q20 because normally R17 would not allow to be passed on the west side and I would play 23.r18 or 23.r19 (saw R19 first played by M. Celuch) and then would try to connect to some support on the south west (e.g. use D15 and H15). However, neither R18 nor R19 work well in this position because of the peg on N17 and so I was forced to search for an alternative. (R19 might work, there are plenty of lines though.).

Alan, thank you very much for your interest in this game, for driving this site and for being consistent and reliable.

What am I missing about |27.s20 ?

You're missing Q22. It is crucial to the pattern.

|27.s20 28.q22 now what?

29.q19 30.o21

29.o19 30.r21

How about |24.p22 25.n21 26.t18 27.u19 28.u22 29.r18 30.p18 31.s20 32.o20

But |18.s19 looks good for black.

Yes. And r17 might have worked if Black had played the upper right corner differently.
