Seems like |5.j16 was the losing move. 6.k15 is too strong, and makes both of my lower-board moves look pretty ineffectual. Still trying to figure out how to balance making threats in the opening without giving too much away, but this was not a success.

Just a guess, but white's position does not look hopeless to me on move 7. How about |7.g13 and white still has the resource to play P15 at some point, which means white might be able to connect to the top from either Q13 or G13. One continuation might be 8.i169.e17.
