Bob, I'll be back in a day or two, seeing if I could get this game on here. Thanks.

I believe you are right,, 5.j14. What move(s) for you then? I'll go through a series of moves from there later, I need time. Another part of the game I need opinions on are 31.q14. What happens if I go 31.s14? I'll see if I can come up with a series of moves on that also. It's hard to analyze any of your moves, because you won. I appreciate your time giving your opinions. Let's get this done and start on another game. Thanks.

5.j14 gives you control of the center

if 6.l12, then 7.m11
if 6.l11, then 7.k12

so I think my best is 6.j18 and then that's a whole different game

After 30.q13, you're dead meat in the lower right corner

if 31.s14, then 32.r18

Are you not familiar with http://twixt.wikifoundry.com/page/The+Achilles+Defense ?

I don't like |5.j14. The main reason is that the i9 peg blocks its direct path to the top. I would probably have played |5.g13 instead, and what would follow is a typical windmill opening.

I'd still think in a windmill pattern, but |5.j14 leaves i9's path to the left side unchecked, so Black is free to not guard it. Black can be bolder about making a threat across the top. For example, 6.L7. Now what has become of White's "control of the center"? It's gone! For example, direct block of the new threat 7.p8, then 8.L11 9.k12 10.n12 11.L10 12.m9. Naturally I would not recommend 7.p8; I'd recommend continuing the windmill instead, but because of Black's boldness, White is forced to be more timid.

I'm not familiar with the term "windmill opening"

A "windmill" goes around like this: |5.g13 6.j7 7.s10 8.n18 - each move creates new threats around the outside, until someone runs out of room.

Thanks Alan, I like it. Good advice. Yes Bob, I like his recommendations, and you are right about after q13. A pretty narrow window.See you next game.
