I agree. But you don't have to do that much analysis to see that 8.j12 is a better move. You just have to see that either 8.i9 or 8.j12 would be good enough to guarantee a connection to the left side, but 8.j12 is stronger on the right side.

Actually, after 5.k8 I thought that was not a good move because it allowed you to get a very good position as twixter commented. Still I think my position wasn't too strong until after 15. q15
|8.j12 9.n9 10.n12 looks winning for black.
Julian's actual |13.r13 still looks winning, but not as strong. For example, consider this complete work of fiction: |14.o12 15.q11 16.q16 17.s16 18.r20 19.q17 20.p19 21.m15 22.o17 23.p14 24.j19 25.j18 26.k17 27.k16 28.h18 29.l18 30.m20 31.m21 ... fortunately, Wayne's actual reply |14.n15 was weak, and Julian was able to effectively put the game away with |15.q15.
Wayne's best shot at move 12 was probably a defensive move like |12.n17, but I think Julian still would have had the upper hand.
